Spring is just around the corner. Before we reach that, though we have to navigate some seasonal slippy weather! We’ve put together this helpful infographic to make sure you avoid slips this winter.
Slipping over on the snow or ice might be more than embarrassing! Falls can cause bruising and broken bones. This applies especially to those over 60 years of age, or who have osteoporosis or underlying balance problems.
Take your time and be mindful about how you walk, keeping your feet widely spaced and taking short steps with your toes turned out slightly to help you balance. Wearing sensible, low heeled shoes and use a backpack instead of a handbag or carrier bags to carry things so that your arms are free to help you balance.
It is still important to get out and about as much as you can within reason, fresh air, exercise and social interactions are all important. If you feel you are especially at risk of falls it can be helpful to have a friend or neighbour on standby to help with shopping or to walk with you for some reassurance.
